Yesterday, The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Singapore participated in the Site-visit organized by the European Chamber of Commerce, Singapore (EuroCham Singapore) taking 70 members of 13 European National Chambers and EuroCham on a full-day mission to the JohorโSingapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ).
With site visits to Port of Tanjung Pelepas, Kuehne+Nagel, BMW Group Distribution Centre, Senai Airport City and AME Development Sdn Bhd members saw firsthand how the ecosystem is coming together and what opportunities lie ahead.
For businesses looking to the JS-SEZ for expansion, three key themes stood out:
- One ecosystem, two complentary strenghts :
Rather than viewing Singapore and Johor separately, the most compelling approach is to see them as a โtwin hub.โ
- A powerful value proposition driven by cost, proximity and policy support:
Johor offers a strong combination of lower operating costs, immediate proximity to Singapore, and active government facilitation.
- Real momentum and early validation from global players :
The JS-SEZ is already attracting significant investment, particularly in sectors like data centers, advanced manufacturing, and logistics.
Foreign companies and some of Europe's biggest organisations like DHL Supply Chain, Unilever, Infineon, Jebsen & Jessen, Maersk, DB Schenker are establishing a presence, reinforcing confidence in the corridorโs potential.
These insights were shared during a panel discussion with Mr Adny Ahmad (Senior Vice President, Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre Johor (IMFC-J)),
Mr Mark Hardiman (Chief Executive Officer at The Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP)), Mr Shyong Lee (Group Head/Managing Director โ Public Sector and Services, Global Corporate Banking, OCBC Bank) and Ms Maike Rohwer (Neelsen) (Head of Tax, Luther Malaysia Corporate Services), moderated by Mr Jens Ruebbert (President, EuroCham Singapore) offering a practical view of what businesses can expect as the corridor continues to develop.
Followed by an afternoon session with a presentation from Ms Debbie Choy (Director of Real Estate, AME Development Sdn Bhd), Mr Zygimantas Dirse (VP Asia, Kitron Group) and Ms Esther Teo (Director, JS-SEZ, Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB))
We'd like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the sponsors who made the day as special as it was: OCBC, Kitron Group, BMW Group, Port of Tanjung Pelepas, AME Development Sdn Bhd.
